Ash die back has arrived at Bron Haul.

We first saw signs of this disease in self-set saplings in 2018. This year we have started to see it affecting a few bigger trees.

Our strategy for dealing with tree disease in our woodland is to focus on tree health. We hope that regular thinning will help reduce tree stress and that our intimate species mix will reduce disease transmission.

However, we can’t deny the possibility that ash die back threatens the presence of ash trees in our woodland and ash timber in our choice of workshop timbers.

This has prompted a flurry of cleft ash gate making, creating ash artefacts for our landscape to remind us of the beauty and versatility of this easily cleft timber.
